13 killed in land waste collapse in Myanmar

Nay Pyi Taw, May 24 (IANS) A total of 13 people were killed, 20 injured and 100 went missing after a land waste collapsed from a jade mine in Myanmar’s Kachin state.

The land waste from a jade mine undertaken by Yadanar Sin company and located in Hpakan township collapsed on Monday night, Xinhua news agency quoted an official of the township as saying on Tuesday.

The victims were searching pieces of jade when the land waste collapsed, the official said.

A local emergency worker said the missing people are feared dead.

It is difficult for emergency workers to rescue as there are no machines. Moreover, a small collapse of land waste had occurred Tuesday morning when the workers were searching for the missing people, he added.
