New Delhi, Feb. 9 (ANI): Bollywood actor Govinda, who offered Rs. five lakh compensation to a fan whom he had slapped in 2008 following the Supreme Court’s intervention, today said that he agreed to apologise because a ‘certain section’ of the people wanted him to do so.
“Whether it is the reporters, those who love me or the court, I have taken this decision because you all wanted me to. With due respect to all I have done whatever he wanted me to do, I have apologised, I have compensated him,” Govinda told a press conference here.
“Throughout this case, there was a section, which wanted that no one should be hurt and that the fans shouldn’t be disappointed. I have done whatever they and the court wanted,” he added.
Earlier in the day, Govinda offered an unconditional apology and a compensation of Rs. five lakh to Suresh Rai, whom he had slapped during a movie shoot at the Filmistan Studio in 2008.
The apex court also asked the actor to meet Rai in person and apologise within two weeks.
Meanwhile, Rai told ANI that he is not happy with the compensation offered and insisted that he would first meet the actor and then decide on the future course of action.
Rai had earlier moved the apex court, alleging that the actor had humiliated him in public.
The incident took place while Govinda was shooting for the movie ‘Money hai toh honey hai’. (ANI)
