Kathmandu, June 24 (ANI): A total of 238 delegates from 53 nations have confirmed their participation in the International Conference on Nepal’s Reconstruction, which is set to take place on June 25 in Kathmandu.
The theme of the meeting is ‘Towards a Resilient Nepal,’ reported The Himalayan Times.
Although 70 countries and multilateral agencies were invited to attend the conference, only 53 -19 multilateral agencies, 30 countries and four agencies: United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), U.K’s Department for International Development (DFID) and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), have confirmed their participation.
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, who arrived in Kathmandu to attend the donors’ meet, hailed the ‘steely determination’ of the people of Nepal, saying that the citizens of the Himalayan nation are resolute in their efforts to rebuild their nation after the devastating earthquakes that struck the country recently.
Two massive quakes hit the Himalayan nation on April 25 and May 12, killing an estimated 8,787 people and rendering almost a million homeless.
The Nepali government has stated that the disaster has resulted in a USD seven billion loss to its economy. (ANI)
