Lucknow, May 3 (IANS) Twenty-five inmates of a juvenile home in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh escaped on Tuesday morning following a clash between two groups, a police official said.
Five of the juvenile delinquents have since been nabbed while 20 others still are missing and on the run, the police official told IANS.
Two groups of inmates of the juvenile home in Suraj Kund Park in Meerut district clashed on Monday night.
As a police squad and senior officials arrived at the juvenile home, they were attacked with stones.
“In the melee that ensued, 25 inmates slipped out of the premises,” the police official said.
The institution had a total of 61 inmates.
This is the second instance of inmates escaping from the juvenile home in the last 15 months.
In February 2015, 91 inmates escaped, using bedsheets to make a rope which they used to jump across the kitchen wall.
The institution was also in news in December 2014 when a police person died there during a major fight between the inmates. The police had then booked 125 of the inmates under serious charges.
