A jewellery store in Chandigarh’s Sector 17 was hit by robbers on Sunday in the biggest-ever such theft in the city’s history.

Diamond and gold jewellery worth a whopping C$3 million (Rs 14 crores) besides C$20,000 (Rs 10 lakhs) in cash.

Police said that the robbery at Forever Diamonds was the work of three youngsters, all in their mid-20s.  One of them visited the store on Saturday and ordered a diamond ring. On Sunday, the three of them (one was a young woman) entered the store at around noon and said they wanted a change in the design of the ring. When one of the store owners Rajnish Varma went into the safe room, a robbes followed him while the other whipped out a pistol and threatened his brother Vinod Varma.
