Brampton City Council on Wednesday approved more than $690,000 through the 2016 Community Grant Program. This included $475,692 in cash awards and $172,795 of in-kind grants to be provided to community groups as a result of applications submitted to the program. 47 groups were approved for grants this year.
These figures do not include the Minor Community Donations Grant, which remains open to applications. As of May 1, 75 Minor Community Donation applications were approved, representing cash donations of $57,000.
Brampton City Council approved the 2016 Community Grant Making Program on December 9 of last year. The deadline for applications was February 8.
Municipal funding for the program was open to Brampton community groups, sports clubs, neighbourhood volunteer groups, and festival and event organizers under four funding streams: Arts and Culture; Sports, Parks and Recreation; Festivals and Celebration Events; and Minor General Community Donations.
The Community Grant Program supports Council’s commitment to increase transparency and accountability in all City operations. It is in line with the strategic goals of the City and recognizes that through grant making, the City is supporting not-for-profit community groups and volunteer-based organizations with events and projects that build civic pride and foster positive city image. – CINEWS
