TORONTO: CanIndia made
history in the annals of journalism and brought glory to South Asian
community. It is the sole South Asian newspaper to have received
this honour from The Lt. Governor of Ontario who presented the
coveted media awards. CanIndia was acknowledged as the paper for its
“excellent presentation, editorial content, investigative
journalism; and for its efforts to integrate the community into main
stream”. The awards were presented by National Ethnic Press and
Media Council of Canada (NEPMCC).
The Medal of Outstanding Newspaper Award was presented to Mr.
Jaswinder Marjara, Publisher of CanIndia . The Lieutenant Governor
of Ontario hosted the award ceremony of NEPMCC at the Lieutenant
Governor’s Suite at Queen’s Park, Toronto, on Friday, September 22,
2006.
The NEPMCC also presented the award to, CanIndia for its efforts to
uphold Canadian values of justice, free expression, liberties social
justice, multiculturalism, human rights, respect of human and
cultural values, and equality among all Canadians.”
The members of the Board of Directors of the NEPMCC, on the
recommendation of the award committee, also “granted and bestowed
upon Jaswinder Marjara all the rights, privileges and honours
afforded as an honorary member of the board of directors. The
honorary membership is granted in recognition of public-spirited
support to his community and the efforts for the creation of a true
and just multicultural society.”
The members of the Board of Directors also “granted and bestowed
upon him the Medal for distinguished services provided to arts, to
letters, to science, to industry, to public service, to media, to
community and the Canadian society. By promoting equality, respect
to human values, the human rights and cooperation and understanding
among the members of the various cultural groups of the Canadian
society.” We at Canindia are indeed justifiably proud and assure our
