Mumbai, Sept. 13 (ANI): Senior advocate and women rights activist Abha Singh on Sunday criticised the Uttar Pradesh police for their inability to protect a rape victim, who was shot dead by unidentified bike-borne men in Mau and accused the state government of giving political patronage to the criminals.
“When she was a witness and there was a danger to her life, why did the local police not give her protection? Witnesses need to be protected and the killing of a witness shows that there is no law and order in UP, ” Singh told ANI.
“There is no fear of law in UP, and that is the reason that a rape victim was blatantly shot dead outside the court,” she added.
A rape victim was shot dead by unidentified bike-borne men earlier today in Baijapur village of Mau district.
The victim had to appear before the court after 2 days, in connection with a 2011 rape-case.
The accused in the case are the manager of the college where the victim studied and other un-identified men.
The victim’s elder sister is also said to have been a victim of the group, before she committed suicide. The family was being harassed to take back the rape case filed by them.
The Uttar Pradesh police is looking into the matter. (ANI)
