Actor Sachin Pilgaonkar who is a part of web series Sex Chat with Pappu & Papa has expressed his strong resentment at the stereotypical portrayal of homosexuals in Indian movies many of which poke fun at their sexuality and mannerisms.
At the launch of the series, Sachin who has an encounter with a homosexual character in web series, when asked about the penchant of Hindi films of mocking homosexual characters to create humour, he said, “I strongly object to see when people portray homosexuals characters as objects of fun in films. That is not humour. You will never poke fun at a crippled or blind person. Similarly, poking fun at a homosexual person movies is disgusting.”
Sachin essays the role of a grandfather who along with his son partakes in educating his little grandchild about sex. Stressing on the need of sexual education in the country, Sachin said, “Making sex education compulsory in all schools is extremely important.”
With India being the world’s biggest producer of films (around 1000 last year, twice that of America) its censor board, aka the Central Board of Film Certification, has its work cut out. It watches and certifies every film, both Indian and non-Indian, before they can be shown to the country’s masses.
In the past Bollywood celebrities have voiced disappointment over the Supreme Court verdict that criminalised homosexuality, calling it “violative of basic human rights”.
Hollywood actress and human rights activist Mia Farrow also joined the stars in slamming the judgment, saying it was a “very dark day” for freedom and human rights in India. – CINEWS
