Afghan Taliban claims end of post Mullah Omar succession dispute

Karachi, Sept. 16 (ANI): Afghan Taliban has finally put an end to the succession dispute after the family of their former chief Mullah Omar, pledged allegiance to the new supremo Mullah Akhtar Mansour.

According to the Dawn, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid announced the development that shows Mullah Mansour has consolidated his status as the group’s chief.

The end to the succession dispute also paves way for reconciliation talks between the Afghan Government and the Taliban that had been stalled since July.

Analysts said that it was a coincidence that the announcement came on a day when both British and American special envoys for Afghanistan and Pakistan were here to discuss the Afghan peace process. (ANI)
