New Delhi, Jan. 26 (ANI): The Air India on Tuesday felicitated those employees who took part in evacuation efforts during different emergency situations across the world.
The event called ‘Humane Efforts of Air India’ was held at PVR cinema at Vansant Kunj in the national capital.
Regional Secretary of Air India Regional Sports Club said that the national airlines had carried out several operations to rescue Indians stuck on difficult situations.
“We are proud to be Air Indians. While we were discussing the matter it occurred to us it should be celebrated,” he said.
The CMD of Air India, Ashwani Lohani, lauded airlines’ employees for their commitment towards rescuing lives and recalled the efforts of their staff during 1990 Kuwait crisis.
“It was a national mission and AI played a very big role in it. AI has always been front runner in providing relief and rescue operations. We are in fact proud of it,” he said.
Air India has undertaken several missions to provide relief to people stuck in difficult situations.
Air India airlifted around 15, 000 people to safety from Libya in 2011 under Operation Homecoming.
In August 1990, Air India evacuated 1,11, 711 Indians from Iraq and Kuwait via 488 flights over 59 days.
Around 3, 614 people were evacuated from Yemen in April 2015 under operation Rahat.
They have also provided relief in many of the domestic situations like Chennai floods and Uttarakhand landslides. (ANI)
