Karachi, Mar.6 (ANI): Former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram has lashed out at the critics of Shahid Afridi, describing the comments against the current T20 captain as ‘unfair and below the belt’.
Afridi received a flurry of criticism following his disappointing performance during Pakistan’s disastrous Asia Cup Twenty20 campaign, which concluded on Friday.
He scored just three runs and bagged two wickets in the two out of four matched which he played.
Backing Afridi’s technique, Akram insisted that he had maintained a particular style from the last 15 years which had been backed by everyone.
The former pace spearhead added that one could not expect Afridi to come to the crease and start blocking the ball all of a sudden, the Dawn reported.
Describing Afridi as a ‘tremendous’ bowler, Akram insisted that the former should just focus on hitting big runs, adding that he should be supported for his style.
Pakistan will now head into World T20, where they will play their opening match against hosts India in Dharamsala on March 19. (ANI)
