Amitabh to attend temple festival opening in Thrissur, Kerala

seetha ramaswamyAmitabh Bachchan will tomorrow visit Thrissur, Kerala’s cultural capital, o be a part of a temple festival.

He will be present at the opening rituals of the 10-day ‘Vasantholsavam’ festival at Poonkunnam’s ancient Seetharamaswamy temple. His host in Thrissur is one of Kerala’s leading businessman, T S Kalyanaraman, who is a patron of the shrine. Kalyanaraman owns Kalyan Textiles and Kalyan Jewellers and Amitabh is the brand ambassador for the Kalyan name.

The Vasanthothsavam festival is a regular feature in town and over the years, has seen classical performances by artistes like Shankar Mahadevan and Hariharan. Oscar-nominate Bombay Jayasree will perform on May 11 and other programs include music recitals by Hindustani singer Jayatheerth Mevundi, Neyveli Santhanagopalan, Vishakha Hari and Aruna Sai Ram.

The congregation ceremony of the temple was held on 13 June 1895. T. R. Ramachandra Iyer constructed the temple for Lord Rama. Ramachandra Iyer was conferred with the title of Diwan Bahadour by the Government in recognition of his service to society. This temple is a classic example of the Kerala style of architecture.

Bachchan, 73, is a frequent visitor to Kerala  for movies, advertisement shoots and holidays. However, this is first visit to the temple town of Thrissur. РCINEWS
