Visakhapatnam, Feb.14 (ANI): Indian ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s magical spell guided India to a comfortable victory in the third and the final T20, thereby clinching the three-match series 2-1 at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium here on Sunday.

With the series win, India have also retained their number one spot in the ICC rankings.

Chasing a small target of 83, India lost the lone wicket of Rohit Sharma (13) before getting it in the 14th over.

Opener Shikhar Dhawan (46) and Ajinkya Rahane (22) remained unbeaten and safely guided the hosts to a nine-wicket victory.

Earlier, winning the toss skipper Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni invited the visitors to bat on a wicket that assisted the spinners from the very first over.

Ashwin, who picked up four wickets for just eight runs in his quota of four overs, destroyed the Sri Lankan top order and from there on, the visitors were unable to retain the momentum.

Apart from him, part-time off spinner Suresh Raina also scalped two wickets while Ashish Nehra, Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah chipped in with a wicket each.

For the visitors, it was a sorry tale as only two batsmen were able to reach double figures.

Ashwin was adjudged man of the match as well as man of the series.

India, who had earlier suffered a surprise five-wicket defeat in Pune in the first match, came back strongly at Dhoni’s home ground and defeated the visitors by 69 runs in the second T20. (ANI)
