London, July 15 (ANI): England captain Alastair Cook has insisted that Australia still remain as the favourites to lift the Ashes trophy despite thumping the title holders in the first Test in Cardiff.
The hosts claimed a 169-run win over the Michael Clarke-led side last week and head into the second encounter at Lord’s with a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
The 30-year-old batsman said that Australia are still probably favourites as they have only got to retain the title. Cook added that his side would be happy to go in as underdogs, the BBC reported.
Cook insisted that it is important not to sit back and protect the lead, especially against a formidable side like Australia. According to him, England would become a tough team to beat if they maintain the same standards displayed at Cardiff.
England are seeking to avenge the 5-0 Ashes whitewash incurred against their traditional rivals down under in the 2013-14 series. (ANI)
