Ontario is recognizing 10 Safe and Accepting Schools teams across the province through the Premier’s Awards for Accepting Schools.
These awards are given out annually to recognize teams of students, educators and parents for creativity and leadership in creating positive school environments, and supporting student achievement and well-being.
Mitzie Hunter, Minister of Education, said: “Congratulations to all the recipients of the Premier’s Awards for Accepting Schools for creating positive and inclusive environments. We know how important safe and accepting environments are in helping students become confident, capable and caring citizens.”
The Safe and Accepting Schools Teams in the following schools are the recipients of the 2015-16 Premier’s Awards for Accepting Schools:
Annunciation of Our Lord Catholic Elementary School – Hamilton
Bishop Tonnos Catholic Secondary School – Ancaster
Brookville Public School – Campbellville
École secondaire publique L’Héritage – Cornwall
Fairwood Public School – Keswick
Fenelon Falls Secondary School – Fenelon Falls
H.A. Halbert Junior Public School – Scarborough
St. Anne Catholic High School – Belle River
St. Francis Xavier Catholic Elementary School – Stoney Creek
St. Thomas of Villanova High School – LaSalle
- Every school in Ontario is required to have a Safe and Accepting Schools Team.
- Between 2004-05 and 2015-16, the government invested more than $540 million in safe schools and equity and inclusive education to support the work of school boards and school communities.
- Promoting student well-being is a key goal of Ontario’s renewed vision for education.
