Jirania (West Tripura), July 15 (ANI): Hundreds of children took part in an awareness rally in Tripura with the theme ‘save Howrah and keep Howrah clean’ on the occasion of the 66th Vanmahotsabha in the state.
Organised by a Jirania coordination committee, the rally was flagged off by Pabitra Kar, Speaker of Tripura legislative assembly.
School children, teachers, intellectuals, politicians and people from the civil society took part in the colourful rally shouting slogans and carrying placards.
Howrah is one of the prime rivers of the state that comes out from Baramura hills and passes by the capital city of Agartala to Bangladesh.
The receding water level of the river has become a matter of great concern and the state government is planning several hundred crores ambitious projects to revive the river.
River Howrah is the prime source of water for Agartala and its outskirts. (ANI)
