Durban, Dec.29 (ANI): Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root put up an impressive batting performances as England posted a massive target of 416 runs for South Africa to win the first Test at Kingsmead.
Root and Bairstow smashed 73 and 79 respectively to help their side to a second innings total of 326 runs against the hosts.
James Taylor (42) and Nick Compton (49) were the other significant contributors.
Dane Piedt was the pick of the South African bowlers, bagging five wickets.
Stiaan Van Zyl also claimed three wickets, while Morne Morkel and Kyle Abbott chipped in with a wicket each.
Earlier, the hosts were bundled out for 214 in their first innings.
At the time of filing this report, South Africa had reached 65-1, with opener Dean Elgar (26) and skipper Hashim Amla (4) at the crease.(ANI)
