The big news last weekend was Bardish Chagger, federal Minister of Small Business and Tourism, who was elevated to Leader of the Government in the House of Commons by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Chagger, 36, who is MP for Waterloo (Ontario), retains her role as Minister of Small Business and Tourism. She is the first woman to serve as Government House Leader in the Commons.

She replaces Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, who will also assume additional responsibilities in the coming days.

Trudeau expressed his confidence in Chagger as a worthy successor.

Chagger was appointed Minister of Small Business and Tourism in November 2015.

She graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Science. In 2012, The Waterloo Region Record recognized Bardish as one of “40 under 40” who would lead the Region of Waterloo into the future. She was executive assistant to former MP Andrew Telegdi. – CINEWS
