Bassi appeals to Delhiites to follow odd-even formula

New Delhi, Dec.28 (ANI): Delhi Police Commissioner Bhim Sain Bassi on Monday appealed to the people of Delhi to follow the odd-even formula from January 1st, 2016 in the interest of environment which would help in checking pollution in the national capital.

“Although there are many exemptions, but I appeal to the people of Delhi to follow odd-even formula in interest of environment,” Bassi told ANI in an exclusive interview here.

“We will implement this formula by being under the law. We will also ensure that someone is not harassing people in the name of this policy. Strict action will be taken against such persons,” he added.

Earlier in the day, Bassi had warned the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) volunteers to keep the idea of Rule of Law and Vigilantism at bay.

In a tweet, Bassi said that the Delhi Police would enforce ‘odd even’ and requested the Delhi Government to ask its volunteers to assist the Delhi Police and ‘to act as told’.

“ALL NOTE: Rule of Law & Vigilantism are incompatible,” he added.

The scheme is being implemented for a period of 15 days from January 1, on trial basis to curb pollution in Delhi.

Violators of the scheme would attract a penalty of Rs. 2,000. VIPs, women drivers, CNG-certified vehicles, two-wheelers and those carrying the differently-abled are among the 25 categories which will be exempted from the scheme. (ANI)
