The intersection of Bay Street and Richmond Street West will be fully closed to traffic from Thursday, October 6 at 6 a.m. to Tuesday, October 11 at 6 a.m. for TTC track replacement work, road reconstruction and sidewalk repairs.

Westbound traffic on Richmond Street will be forced to detour at Yonge Street. Local traffic will only be able to access parking garages west of Yonge Street. Motorists can consider alternative routes such as Wellington Street, King Street or Queen Street.

Southbound traffic on Bay Street will be diverted at Queen Street West while northbound traffic on Bay Street will be diverted at Adelaide Street West. Only local traffic will be permitted on Bay Street in both directions approaching the intersection, but traffic will not be able to go through the intersection. Church Street, Yonge Street or University Avenue would be alternative north-south routes when travelling in this area.

To assist with traffic flow in the area and minimize disruptions, traffic-signal timing on parallel routes is being adjusted and enhanced signage will be displayed.

Construction hours on this project have been extended to include some 24/7 activity. The most disruptive and noisy work will be completed before 11 p.m. each night. During this closure, there will be two days with limited activity to allow concrete to dry prior to the asphalt work being completed before the road re-opens on Tuesday, October 11.

Pedestrian and business access will be maintained throughout the construction period.
The most efficient way for cyclists travelling on Bay Street or Richmond Street to get through the construction zone is to dismount and walk around the work zone fencing, then re-mount and resume their trip. Alternatively, cyclists are advised to select an alternate route during the closure.

In addition, Bay Street will be closed from King Street West to Adelaide Street West for a crane hoisting at 44 King St. W. from Friday, October 7 at 7 p.m. toMonday, October 10 at 11:59 p.m. There will be no access to Bay Street during that period. Pedestrian access and local access to private driveways will be maintained at all times.

Note: Frank Clarizio, Director, Design & Construction, Engineering & Construction Services, will be on site to answer questions about the work onThursday, October 6 at 7:30 a.m.
