Jaipur, April 10 (IANS) The nationwide “Bharat Bandh” call given by anti-reservation groups for Tuesday evoked a mixed response in Rajasthan, with schools remaining closed in the state and traders voluntarily downing their shutters in several cities.
According to ADG – Law and Order N.R.K. Reddy, a total of 36 companies of Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC), 30 companies of central para military forces (CPMF), including Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Border Security Force, and 700-800 policemen were deputed in different parts of the state to ensure order during the bandh.
“No violence was reported from any part of the state. We had clamped Section 144 in areas where we anticipated clashes, including Jaipur, Sikar, Karauli, Hindaun, Barmer and a few other districts. While probibitory orders will continue in Jaipur, it will be lifted in other districts soon depending on circumstances there,” he added.
No specific group as such had came forward to call for the bandh, but a few districts voluntarily observed bandh, he said.
Sikar witnessed 70 per cent bandh, while Alwar was 50-70 per cent bandh. Very little impact was seen in other cities, he added.
Besides, no demonstration or rally was taken out anywhere in state and the situation was quite peaceful, Reddy added.
