Bharti exercising his right to take bail, says AAP

New Delhi, Sept 23 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) spokesperson Preeti Sharma Menon on Wednesday said former law minister Somnath Bharti is not running away from the law, but exercising his right to take bail from the Supreme Court.

“Technically, he is not running away, he is exercising his right to take bail. And, he is approaching the apex court. So, he is within his right to do that,” Menon told ANI.

“But personally, we would think that that’s not a very good strategy. Personally, we think that one must let the law take its own course,” she added.

The Delhi Police had registered a case against the former law minister after he was accused of domestic violence and mental torture by his wife Lipika Mitra.

The case was registered against Bharti under Sections 307, 323 and 498A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Lipika has been married to Bharti since 2010, but has been living separately from him since 2012 along with the couple’s two children in a rented accommodation in Dwarka. (ANI)
