Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), April. 2 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Uttar Pradesh unit president Laxmikant Bajpai on Saturday blamed the Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav-led government in the state for riot in the Varanasi prison, hinting that such a situation could not have occurred without a nexus between the inmates and the district administration.
Speaking to ANI, Bajpai further accused SP leader Naga Yadav for chaotic situation in Varanasi jail.
“BJP has always stressed that Samajwadi Party’s leaders and workers are responsible for pathetic state of law and order in the state. The Chief Minister is also the Home Minister, but he is still not able to control the situation. Whatever is happening in Varanasi, SP’s Naga Yadav is responsible,” he said.
“The prison is sitting on a mountain of gun powder. How are weapons reaching the prison? It is not possible without the nexus between prison officials, district administration and the state government,” he added.
A major riot broke out at Varanasi’s District Jail today between inmates and police forces.
The inmates were seen pelting stones at officials, who were trying their best to contain the chaos in the prison. Sounds of gunshots being fired was also heard from the scene.
According to reports, the Deputy Jailer, Ajay Kumar Rai, was injured in the melee.
Additional forces have been rushed to the prison to bring the situation under control. (ANI)
