Rajahmundry (Andhra Pradesh), July 14 (ANI): At least 14 people have died and several others injured in a stampede at the Pushkaralu ghat in Andhra Pradesh’s Rajahmundry on Tuesday.

The tragedy took place during the ‘Maha Pushkaralu’ festival.

Officials fear that the death toll is likely to rise as some of the injured are in a serious condition.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has instructed the officials to monitor the relief work. As per reports, Naidu is reviewing the situation from the control room set up at the venue.

According to reports, the incident occurred when some people tried to climb up a wall to get an early entry.

The injured are being treated at the Government Hospital in Rajahmundry.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condoled the loss of lives due to the stampede in Rajahmundry.

“Deeply pained at the loss of lives due to stampede at Rajahmundry. My condolences to the families of the deceased and prayers with the injured. I spoke to CM N. Chandrababu Naidu and discussed the situation with him. The State Government is working to restore normalcy,” he said. (ANI)
