Popular Bollywood baddie of the 90s Govind Namdeo who went into ‘eclipse’ after many memorable films is resurfacing with a new Hollywood movie titled Solar Eclipse.
Solar Eclipse is a historical film based on the true events in the aftermath of India’s Independence, including Partition and subsequent carnage and the assassination of Mahatama Gandhi. Namdeo plays the character of Morarji Desai in the film which also features Om Puri.
The actor played some memorable villain characters in Bandit Queen, Prem Granth, Viraasat and Satya. Though he made brief appearances in recent blockbusters, his fans wanted more from him. In Bollywood he will also be seen playing Lokmanya Tilak in Chapekar Brothers which is set to hit theatres on September 2.
In an interview he says in the Hollywood film he is playing the character of Morarji Desai who was the Home Minister of Bombay state when the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi took place.
The plan to kill Gandhi was done in Bombay by a Hindu outfit who thought he was responsible for the division of the country. His character portrays how Desai dealt with the situation after Gandhi assassination.
The film makers have done lot of extensive research to make sure that factually everything is accurate.
Explaining his brief disappearance from Bollywood films he says the industry has changed and lot of new faces have come. And it happens always. “The new replaces the old ones. I used to play villain in my earlier films and now the hero himself is seen doing villainous roles or comedy. So not much is left for us to do and I am not ready to do anything lesser than that,” the actor said. – CINEWS
