Brampton concludes Hindu Heritage Month Celebrations

The month of November as Hindu Heritage Month was celebrated across Brampton through many community events.

An impressive flag raising ceremony and reception to remember, celebrate and educate future generations about Hindu Canadians was held at the Brampton City Hall. Many local elected officials and dignitaries were in attendance to mark the occasion including Ruby Sahota MP Brampton North, Sonia Sidhu MP Brampton South, Amarjot Sandhu MPP Brampton West, Councillor Doug Whillans (Acting Mayor), Councillor Jeff Bowman and Councillor Charmaine Williams.

Various community organisations like Canadian Hindu Association, World Brahman Federation of Canada, Akhand Bharti Club, Hindu Sabha Temple, New Hope Seniors Club, Aggarwal Sabha Canada, New Brampton, My Indians in Canada Association, South Asians in Ontario, Brampton First Foundation amongst others supported the event.

The heritage month celebrations were also held at the Hindu Sabha Temple led by students and teachers from the Sabha school. Additional events were organised at Hanuman Temple, Gauri Shankar Temple and Hindu Heritage Centre.

All these events were put together under the patronage of Hindu Heritage Celebration Foundation – a non-profit organisation. The Foundation members include Dave Kapil, Peeyush Gupta, Nik Mengi, Virender Rathee, Rakesh Joshi, Manan Gupta, Madhsudan Lama, Anil Sharma, Madhu Sharda and Amit Bhatt.

The Province of Ontario, City of Brampton, City of Ottawa and many other municipalities across the province have proclaimed the month of November as Hindu Heritage Month recognizing the important contributions that Hindu Canadians have made to Ontario society. -CINEWS
