Brampton hosting emergency response showcase drill for public

Brampton is hosting a showcase event on May 24 to simulate an accident and hazardous materials release as part of Emergency Management Month.

Residents are being invited to come out and see how first responders work together in an emergency situation.

Brampton Fire and Emergency Services, along with the Brampton Emergency Management Office, Peel Regional Police and Peel Regional Paramedic Services, will be performing a mock Hazardous Materials emergency response on Wellington Street.

This event may look like a real emergency, but is a demonstration only.

It will simulate a vehicle crash and the release of a hazardous gas as a result of the accident. First responders will contain the situation, “rescue” the victims, and perform control and decontamination activities in response to the gas release. The demonstration event will close down Wellington Street between George Street and Main Street from 10 am to 3 pm.

Everyone is welcome to attend the event. After the demonstration, there will be an opportunity to talk to first responders and find out more about what they do and about Emergency Management Month in Brampton.
