Brampton man charged after sexual assault on international student

Gurpinder Singh, a 28-year-old Brampton man has been charged after an international student was allegedly lured to a Toronto hotel room and sexually assaulted on the promise of help setting up a bank account.

Toronto police say that on November 15, a female foreign student “travelled into Toronto from another province to meet” a male suspect who allegedly told her he could help her set up a bank account in the city.

She went to a hotel room in the city where she was allegedly sexually assaulted, photographed without her consent and threatened with death.
The 28-year-old accused is facing one count each of sexual assault, uttering a death threat, extortion and voyeurism.

Police say they believe there may be other victims and they’re encouraging anyone with information to come forward.

Anyone who has been a victim of a sexual offence should report it to police. Investigators want to remind people that they will not be questioned on their immigration status as part of this report. -CINEWS
