Prabjote Lakhanpal, 19, lives and breathes politics

Brampton, February 19 (CINEWS): Prabjote Lakhanpal, is a Brampton teen who lives and breathes politics. He is currently on Parliament Hill this week taking the country’s top job as part of a week in the life of the prime minister. The 19-year-old Lakhanpal is currently in remission following a battle with Hodgkin lymphoma, a form of cancer affecting the body’s immune system. The disease made him a candidate for Make-A-Wish, a foundation that grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions.
When Lakhanpal learned that he was eligible to be granted a wish, the politics, economics and law buff knew right away he wanted to be the nation’s leader.
He settled in at the presidential suite of the Chateau Laurier hotel in Ottawa this Monday evening ahead of a five-day visit.
That was just the first surprise planned for him by Make-A-Wish Canada as part of a VIP itinerary that includes a tour of Parliament, a swearing-in ceremony, a media scrum following question period, and — in true prime ministerial fashion — getting his own security detail.
“I wanted to come up with a wish that was extraordinary that nobody else has ever done and a wish that you can never buy with money, that is priceless essentially,” Lakhanpal told Metro Morning host Matt Galloway on Wednesday. “This is not like going to Disney World.”
One of the biggest treats of the week will be a full-day visit to the Supreme Court, something that has special meaning for Lakhanpal whose next wish is to pursue law at Osgood Hall Law School once he’s completed his undergraduate studies.
But Make-A-Wish hasn’t yet revealed all the treats in store for the teen, partly at his own request.
“I actually asked my wish team to keep everything about what’s happening with my wish to be kept secret only because I want to actually experience it as it happens to me,” Lakhanpal said.
Already the teen has had a special security briefing, has met Governor General David Johnston and taken the Prime Minister’s seat on a Challenger jet.
