Brampton West residents honoured with Ontario Senior Achievement Award

Brampton, December 11 (CINEWS): Mohan Singh Hira Bhangoo and William E. Burrell of Brampton West were recognized with a 2015 Ontario Senior Achievement Award for their outstanding contributions in the field of community service.
The Ontario Senior Achievement Award is Province’s Highest Honour for Contributions by Ontario Seniors and was conferred on the two men on November 26.
Mohan Singh Hira Bhangoo, a key fundraiser for the Terry Fox Foundation and organized the Terry Fox Run in Brampton in support of cancer research and awareness. He shared Terry Fox’s story with a whole new community by translating the
biography into Punjabi.
William E. Burrell, a World War II veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force, has been very active in his community since retirement. He has volunteered with the local Canadian Legion (raising over $700,000 through the Poppy Fund), Canadian Red Cross, Ontario Minor Hockey League as well as Canada Post’s Santa letter writing program.
The Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, along with the Honourable Mario Sergio, Minister Responsible for Seniors Affairs recognized 21 recipients at a ceremony held at Queen’s Park in Toronto.
“Individuals like Mr. Bhangoo and Mr. Burrell set an example for all of the generations that follow of the kind of lasting impact and legacy that is possible when you give back.
