Brampton YMCA celebrates Diwali with the community

On Saturday November 3, the Brampton Union St. YMCA hosts its fifth-annual Diwali celebration which is a free public event that will showcase a variety of dance groups performing different types of traditional Indian dances.

Doors open to the public at 11 a.m. with the Canadian national anthem and the Indian song Vande Mataram played on violin by Rishona Seraphim.

This will be followed by the opening ceremony and lighting of the Diya.

Sonia Sidhu, MP, Brampton South along with other dignitaries are expected to attend this event.

Later there will be an Indian classical dance Sangeetanatyalam by Annu Ponnambalam, followed by Punjabi Bhangra dance by Seerat and Mehar both are members of the Brampton YMCA. They performed at Parliament Hill on the occasion Of Baisakhi. They have also performed at other cultural events like Ms. Canada Punjab and the South Asian Cultural Festival in Niagara Falls.
