Paviter Singh Bassi a 21-year-old Brampton young man who was reported beaten with sticks on Monday 19th March has died, say Peel Regional Police.

Paviter Singh Bassi died in hospital Tuesday morning after he was brutally beaten in the area of Sandalwood Parkway and Cedarclif Trail, on the grounds of Sandalwood Heights Secondary School, according to Peel police.

The men responsible, described only as “multiple suspects” have still not been identified and are the subject of an intense police investigation.

Police said the victim was viciously beaten and suffered severe head injuries in the daylight attack at 6 p.m.

Witnesses to the attack called police, but the suspects fled in a vehicle before officers arrived.

The victim was rushed to a Toronto trauma centre where he died of his injuries.

The Homicide Bureau is now investigating his death as a homicide.

It’s Peel’s seventh murder of the year.

According to a Bramptonian who is in the know, the suspects are in all probability South Asian and one wonders about the motives behind this daylight attack. It may be recalled that recently a viral video featuring two groups of South Asians in the parking lot of a Brampton strip mall were seen battling each other with sticks.

It would seem sticks have now emerged as a weapon of choice. – CINEWS
