Brazilian striker Hulk withdraws from 2018 WC qualifying draw after racism claims

London, July 24 (ANI): Zenit St Petersburg striker Hulk has pulled out of the 2018 World Cup qualifying draw, days after he complained that Russian football has been suffering from ‘gross and ugly’ racism.

Hulk said that racism happens at almost every match in Russia but the world does not hear about it because they try to keep it quiet, The Guardian Reported.

However, FIFA attributed the replacement of the Brazilian with erstwhile Russia captain Alexey Smertin to the former’s ‘club commitments’.

After it was announced on Wednesday that he would take part in the draw, Hulk had expressed happiness, saying that he was flattered by the invitation.

Ronaldo, Diego Forlan, Fabio Cannavaro, Samuel Eto’o and Oliver Bierhoff are the other former internationals, who will take part in the qualifying draw for the 2018 World Cup on Saturday. (ANI)
