Sao Paulo, April 30 (IANS) Sport de Recife has said it signed Brazilian midfielder Michel Bastos, who has played for Dutch, French and Italian football clubs, on a contract that runs until December.
“We are happy to bring a player like Michel Bastos to Sport because of his experience, talent and attitude. He is going to be an important piece in our line-up. We have a strong group and Michel has skills that will add a lot to our team,” Sport executive Klauss Camara said in a statement, reports Efe.
The 34-year-old Bastos comes to Sport from Palmeiras, which had signed him in 2017.
Bastos played in 44 matches for Palmeiras, scoring two goals.
Sport, which struggled to stay in the First Division last year, plans to use Bastos more on offence, the team said.
Bastos has played for Brazil’s Atletico Paranaense, Gremio, Figueirense, Sao Paulo and Palmeiras.
In Europe, he played for Feyenoord, Olympique Lyon and Roma, among other clubs.
Bastos was a member of the national team that competed in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
