New Delhi, Mar 18 (ANI): Cairn India has remained in the top deciles of safety performance amongst peer group companies for the FICCI Safety Systems Excellence Award in Manufacturing. The awards, which are dedicated for best safety and occupation health systems act as a motivation and a catalyst for adopting best safety practices and systems in the manufacturing sector.
Addressing delegates and safety professionals from different sectors at the conference, Dr V K Saraswat said, “Safety in the unorganized sector remains an area of concern and there is a need to bring in cultural change to ensure that the best safety systems are adopted.”
He added that hazard engineering can be introduced as a subject in education to ensure that safety practices are given priority in the workplace and to bring in cultural change.
The success of Cairn’s safety program has been largely dependent on a four-fold approach to safety, which relies on creation of procedures and systems to manage the safety of employees, processes and assets, right and timely training of employees to mould safe behavior, provision of the right equipment to do the job, including personal protective gears and developing a monitoring mechanism that consistently investigates and improves upon the findings of safety incidents.
In addition, Cairn’s operating sites are also required to conduct hazard and operability (HAZOP) studies to identify potential hazards and operational problems in terms of facilities’ design and human error. These studies help identify hazard mitigation and management options that need to be considered while deploying machinery.
Cairn India considers safe transportation of its people and its products as an integral part of responsible care. Continuous efforts to improve road and transport safety are therefore part of the company’s overall objective to improve safety performance throughout its business. (ANI)
