Alberta’s United Conservative Party (UCP) Leader Jason Kenney on Saturday announced that he has accepted the resignation of Calgary-Greenway MLA Prab Gill from the United Conservative Caucus following an internal party ballot-stuffing probe.
Kenney added: “I would also like to thank former Justice Ted Carruthers for his work investigating the June 30 Calgary-Northeast UCP Constituency Association meeting. I hope that we can now all move forward with our task of defeating the NDP and getting Alberta province back on track.”
Gill was elected in a 2016 byelection to replace Manmeet Bhullar, who died in a car accident.
Last Thursday, the party said Gill had stepped aside as the UCP caucus deputy whip pending the outcome of the investigation.
Kenney told the media last Friday: “The view of the party is that the allegations are credible and serious and that is why we engaged a former Queen’s Bench judge to conduct an independent investigation.” -CINEWS
