The number of billionaires in Canada is in decline when compared to the rest of the world.
A new report published Wednesday by the Shanghai-based Hurun Research Institute measured billionaires for its annual Hurun Global Rich List.
In 2020, China and the U.S. has more billionaires than anywhere else on the planet, according to the ranking.
Meanwhile, Canada has fallen from the No. 9 spot on the list in 2018 to No. 13 in 2020 after seeing no change in the number of billionaires while other countries speed ahead.
In 2019, 45 Canadians made Forbes magazine’s annual list of billionaires.
The list of Canadian billionaires is topped by media mogul David Thomson and family, with an estimated net worth of US$32.5 billion, or $43.4 billion in Canadian dollars. Thomson and family are ranked at number 27 in the global list with a net worth that’s more than three times that of the next richest Canadian, e-commerce tycoon Joseph Tsai. -CINEWS
