Casting not yet done for Bhansali’s opus ‘Padmavati’

No decision has been taken on the casting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s prestigious new project Padmavati. There are rumours, however, that Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh have been signed for the film. It was also reported that Aankita Lokhande is not being considered for any role, despite rumours.

The film is centred on the brutal Delhi ruler Alauddin Khilji, who called himself the Sultan of Hindustan and his obsession with Queen Padmavati of Mewar. Bhansali had earlier scripted an opera on Padmavati which was well received in Western capitals like Paris and Rome. The ballet “Padmavati” was written by Albert Rousselan for the Theatre Du Chatelet of France.

The story goes that Padmavati was a legendary beauty and wife of Raja Ratan Singh of Mewar. She travels to Chittoor during a seige and Alauddin sees her reflection in a mirror. Rani Padmavati performs self-immolation to prevent her capture by Alauddin. The film has been tentatively scheduled for release in December 2017.

Earlier, when ‘Bajirao Mastani’ was announced, there was a rumour that Aankita would have a plum role in that film, but that did not happen. – CINEWS
