CBI starts probe into Manoj Vashisht shooting case

New Delhi, July 16 (IANS) The CBI has launched an investigation into the gunning down of businessman Manoj Vashisht by Delhi Police at a restaurant here in May.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took up the case following a directive from the union home ministry.

Vashisht was shot dead by a team of Delhi Police Special Cell at Sagar Ratna restaurant in Rajendra Nagar on May 16.

Delhi Police had claimed that a constable had shot at Vashisht in a bid to incapacitate him, on seeing him firing from his revolver. This, they said, led to his death.

Vashisht’s family alleged that it was a fake gun battle.

The CBI on Thursday registered a case on charges like attempt to murder and obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions.
