Berlin, Oct 2 (IANS) Bayern Munich dropped points for the first time this season after sharing the spoils with Cologne following a 1-1 draw at the sixth round in Bundesliga on Sunday.
Cologne remains unbeaten this season, as Anthony Modeste’s second-half goal cancelled out Joshua Kimmich’s opener to seal Bayern’s first draw, reports Xinhua.
The German giants dictated the pace on home soil but lacked in ideas to threaten Cologne defence. Thus, Cologne custodian Timo Horn remained largely untested before Joshua Kimmich marked the opener out of the blue in the 35th minute.
Juan Bernat’s cross into the box found Kimmich, who broke the deadlock with a diving header from very close range.
After the break, Bayern should have added another goal to their lead but neither Thomas Mueller nor Javier Martinez were able to turn their chances into a tangible reward.
The “Billy Goats” punished Bayern’s wastefulness in the 64th minute when Anthony Modeste found Marcel Risse’s long cross in the box, where the striker tapped home the equalizer.
Mueller had the chance to ensure the 2-1 lead but Timo Horn tipped his effort to the woodwork in the 77th minute before Juan Bernat rattled the left post to squander another Bayern chance in the closing period.
The visitors had as well the chance to snatch a late win on the road but Simon Zoller missed the target from very close range following a fast break in the dying minutes of the game.
Despite the draw, Bayern Munich stay atop the standings with 16 points whereas Cologne dropped to the fourth place.
In other matches, Leverkusen inflicted Dortmund the second loss following a 2-0. Bayer Leverkusen Admir Mehmedi nodded in the opener in the 10th minute before Javier Hernandez sealed the deal in the 79th minute to ensure Leverkusen’s third win of the season.
Hertha Berlin moved on the second place of the standings thanks to Vedad Ibisevic’s brace against struggling Hamburg.
The first-half goals from Sandro Wagner and Kerem Demirbay ensured Hoffenheim’s 2-0 victory at Ingolstadt.
Werder Bremen shared the spoils with Darmstadt following a two-all draw and newly promoted Freiburg edged Frankfurt 1-0 thanks to the early winner from Vincenzo Grifo.
