Communal forces donning ‘shroud of secularism’ at work in Malda: Govt.

Ranchi, Jan. 12 (ANI): Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Tuesday said that communal forces donning the ‘shroud of secularism’ were at work in Malda attempting to degrade the environment of prosperity’ in the nation.

“I believe that there is an All India Communal Syndicate, which has donned the shroud of secularism and is trying to degrade the environment of prosperity in the country,” Naqvi told ANI.

“Whatever has happened in Malda and what is happening in Purnia, clearly indicates that few forces are working to disturb the communal harmony of this country,” he added.

Naqvi also said that the government was committed to neutralise these attempts and added that the nation can develop only after harmony sustains in the country.

“The forces mustn’t be successful in these attempts; this is our commitment as well as the nation’s,” he added.

Meanwhile, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation is set to meet President Pranab Mukherjee and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh at 4:30 p.m. today to apprise them of the law and order situation in the state.

This comes after the BJP delegation was turned away from Malda railway station.

The BJP has accused the Trinamool Congress of backing the perpetrators, adding that the violence in Malda was not a communal incident but a planned attack.

The TMC has, however, accused the BJP of spreading communal venom ahead of the state assembly polls this year.

On January 3, a mob set the Kaliachak police station and several vehicles on fire in protest against a hate speech by a right-wing leader.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said the violence was nothing more than a localised problem and claimed that the state government was taking appropriate action. (ANI)
