Concert to raise funds for children’s shelter a big success

Brampton, December 11 (CINEWS): “Meri Awaaz Suno” a fundraising concert on December 5, organized by the Overseas Volunteers for a Better India (OVBI) for Project Udaan, a shelter to save children from prostitution was a great success. Held at the Chinguacousy school auditorium in Brampton, the concert saw a scintillating gathering of politicians, supporters of womens’s rights, social luminaries, singers, dancers, and audience who came to Singerssupport the cause.
Almas Jiwani, the president of the United Nations Women’s National Committee for Canada and the CEO of Frontier Canada lit the ceremonial lamp together with Hiten Makim, a senior vice president of one of Canada’s leading technology companies as well as the secretary of the Canadian Indian Museum of Civilization.
Ruby Sahota, the Liberal MP for Brampton North and Shri Raj Grewal, the Liberal MP for Brampton East were also present. Deepika Damerla, Liberal MPP for Cooksville also spoke about how those with ties to India must do more to help the needy and uplift those who need it the most. She read a message of support for the event and the cause from the Premier Kathleen Wynne
The singers, Rupali Vatve, Rahul Vyas and Vaishnavi Petkar, ably supported by trained musicians, and dancers-who represented many different styles of dance Bharatnatyam, Lavani, Garba, Bhangra and Bollywood –kept the audience enthralled.
The entire event was managed by volunteers of the OVBI, ably led by the President of the Overseas Volunteer for a Better India (OVBI) Bhavik Parikh, who said that many more events will be held in the near future to raise funds for such causes.
