New Delhi, Feb. 7 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday expressed confidence that the indefinite strike by the MCD workers would certainly be called off as they were in talks with the protestors, reminding them of their obligations to the national capital.

“We are talking to the municipal workers regularly and all the three mayors from our party have spoken to the workers union and in the past few days we have seen the results of those discussions. The doctors, paramedical staff, engineering staff and teachers have called off their strikes. Now, the sanitation workers are left,” Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay told ANI.

Stating that the BJP was in constant talks with the MCD workers, Upadhyay further said that the agitators were being tried and convinced to resume their responsibilities as it was not fair in being an impediment to the cleanliness of the national capital.

“We are trying to convince them that cleanliness of Delhi is of utmost importance. What the Delhi Government does or does not do is not our concern, but we are asking the protestors to resume their work. We are sure we will be able to convince them to fulfill their responsibilities,” Upadhyay said.

Asserting that the BJP supported the demands by the MCD agitators and their anger towards the Delhi Government was justified, he added that it was not fair that their protest was becoming a hindrance towards the city’s cleanliness.

Earlier, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced releasing of funds worth Rs. 700 crore, including Rs. 551 crore loan for the East and North municipal corporations to solve the problem.
