New Delhi, July 5 (ANI): The Congress Party on Sunday demanded the introduction of the Whistle Blowers Protection Bill in the Parliament and said that people, who are unveiling corruption in public life, should be able to state the truth fearlessly.
“We demand that Whistleblower Bill should be immediately introduced and passed on the floor of the Parliament so that people, who are unveiling corruption in public life, are suitably protected and are able to state the truth fearlessly,” said Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala.
The demand for the passage of the Bill comes in the wake of the mysterious deaths of the accused and witnesses related to the Vyapam scam.
On Saturday, Akshay Singh, a journalist working for a leading Delhi-based news channel, suddenly took ill and died after having interviewed parents of a girl who had been found dead near railway tracks, after her name figured in the Vyapam scam.
The incident took place in Meghnagar near Jhabua town.
The journalist was rushed to the civil hospital and later to a private hospital, but doctors failed to revive him. From there he was taken to another hospital in nearby Dahod in Gujarat, where he was declared brought dead.
Th Rajya Sabha had passed the Whistle Blowers Protection Bill earlier in February in the last parliamentary session when the Congress-led UPA-II government was in power at the Centre. The Bill provides for protection of whistleblowers, will become law after the President’s assent. (ANI)
