Countdown to Mississauga 2016 Ontario Summer Games

Mississauga, May 1 (CIEDITOR): On May 2, more than 2,000 Peel Region students from grades 3 to 8 will join the City in celebrating Ontario Summer Games (OSG) 101, the countdown to the Mississauga 2016 Ontario Summer Games.

This action-packed event features a variety of live performances, music and demonstrations. The day also marks Music Monday, an annual celebration that connects youth across the country to celebrate the gift of music in our lives. Students will get the chance to sing along to We are One, the Music Monday anthem which will be sung across the country. YTV’s Carlos Bustamante from The Zone is hosting the event.
OSG 101:
• live performance by Canadian pop sensation Tyler Shaw;
• reading by the City’s new Youth Poet Laureate, Rebecca Zseder;
• live youth performances;
• a sing-along to the Music Monday song;
• DJ dance party;
• OSG sport demonstrations (basketball to boxing); and
• drumming station and extreme sports show.

The Mississauga 2016 Ontario Summer Games are taking place August 11 to 14. Athletes, ages 12 to 18, from across Ontario will compete in the largest Ontario Games in history. More than 3,500 athletes, 500 officials, 700 coaches and managers, in addition to visitors and spectators are expected to participate in the Games. The 2016 Games will combine both winter and summer sporting events and will showcase 34 sporting activities throughout Mississauga and neighbouring municipalities. Music Monday is part of the City’s Rebel16 youth campaign happening from May 1 to 7. Rebel16 marks National Youth Week and National Youth Arts Week from May 1 to 7. Youth ages 13 to 30 across Mississauga are busy planning youth-led activities that will inspire creative expression and community involvement through music, film, the arts, sport and opportunities to make a difference.
