Barcelona, Feb 14 (EFE) Dutch football legend Johan Cruyff said he feels he is ‘2-0 up in a match’ against cancer, and stressed that latest results on the treatment of his lung cancer have been ‘very positive’.
‘After several medical treatments I can say the results have been very positive, thanks to the excellent work of the doctors, the affection of the people and my positive mentality,’ Cruyff said in a statement released by his company Cruyff Management on Saturday.
‘Right now, I have the feeling that I am 2-0 up in the first half of a match that has not finished yet,’ the former Ajax and Barcelona player explained, adding that ‘but I am sure I will end up winning’.
Cruyff, 68, was diagnosed with lung cancer on October 22 after a visit to the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona.
The Dutch legend, who had double heart bypass surgery in 1991, was the first coach to lead Barcelona to win the European Cup title in 1992.
As a player, Cruyff moved from Ajax Amsterdam to Barcelona in 1960s, and then coached Barcelona to win four consecutive La Liga titles from 1991 to 1994.
