Dadri case: UP CM Akhilesh announces 45 lakh ex-gratia to family

Lucknow, Oct. 4 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today announced Rs. 45 lakh as ex-gratia to the family members of Mohammad Akhlaq, who was beaten to death in Dadri’s Bishada village over rumours that he had stored beef at his residence.

Yadav assured his support to the family members, saying communal harmony is an integral part of nation’s culture.

He lashed out at the opposition parties for politicising the matter and said that Samajwadi Party would never do politics on matters such as these.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Akhlaq’s elder brother thanked the media, police and the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister for supporting them and appealed to the state administration to grant them justice.

“In this hour of grief, the media, police and our Chief Minister have helped us. I would like to thank our Chief Minister; I would also like to thank the media for their support. We expect from the government that justice will be done and we have met the Chief Minister to demand justice,” Akhlaq’s elder brother told the media here.

Two main accused in the lynching case, Shivam and Vishal, were arrested yesterday, raising the total number of accused in the case to eight.

Several prominent political leaders from Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal have visited Dadri in the last two days to meet Akhlaq’s family. (ANI)
