Davis Cup: Murray battles past Tsonga to level GB’s quarter-final with France

London, July 17 (ANI): Britain number one Andy Murray trounced Jo-Wilfred Tsonga in a three-set thriller to level the quarter-final round against France of the Davis Cup at 1-1 in London on Friday.

Murray overcame the Frenchman 7-5, 7-6 (12-10), 6-2 in a thrilling contest that saw the Briton save three set points in the second set, the BBC reported.

Earlier, Gilles Simon gave an early lead to France by defeating James Ward 6-4, 6-4, 6-1 in the opening round of singles match.

The best-of-five tie will resume with the doubles on Saturday followed by the reverse singles on Sunday.

The winners will either face Australia or Kazakhstan in September’s World Group semi-finals. (ANI)
