New Delhi, Mar.23 (ANI): Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) treasurer Ravinder Manchanda on Wednesday confirmed that they have received requisite clearance to use the contentious RP Mehra block at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground, which is scheduled to host the first semifinals of the ongoing World T20 to be held on March 30.

The DDCA’s chances of hosting the first semi-finals were thrown into jeopardy due to lack of completion certificate for the block.

However, Manchanda told ANI that the DDCA has received all the necessary clearances required to host the first World T20 semifinals match.

Earlier, the DDCA had approached the High Court in a writ petition seeking orders from the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) to issue a completion certificate for the RP Mehra block, claiming that the ‘unauthorized’ structure inside the stadium can be said to have been ‘regularized’ under the provisions of the Government of National Capital territory of Delhi (Special laws) Act of 2011.

But the Delhi High Court on Tuesday refused to entertain the DDCA’s plea and asked the cricket governing body of the state to talk to the International Cricket Council (ICC) in this regard.

The DDCA had earlier also sent a letter to Justice (retired) Mukul Mudgal, who is appointed as the observer by the court for the prestigious tournament matches in Delhi, and assured him of the safety of the Mehra Block, which has not been used in the World T20 matches. (ANI)
